Teaching Methods of the Teacher

​

            Teaching method was in teacher’s priority because they were teaching different majors and so the diversity of the students really affects the method that the teacher uses. Most of the time teacher are feeder of information and do some assisted activity because not all the students are very active and competitive especially in class interaction maybe because of some lacking and difficulty on the subject area.

​

     Despite that problem, the teacher still has the power to enforce the discovery learning. It is at utmost requirement for the teacher to develop students’ independence and self-reliance so they are using discovery learning method. The students were exposed to several tasks wherein they have to accomplish through their own skills and try discover what the activity is trying to ask them. At the first the teacher presents abstract thoughts and the students will synthesize and image and finally come up to the best answer. After that the teacher reveals the topic and the students realized that they have just embarked a part of their topic and they will have interest because they know already what they will be tackling for that day.

      Collaborative method was also at high emphasis on the teachers because they are trying to develop the cooperation among the group and do some brain storming as well as sharing of thoughts in completing tasks. The students had groupings for reporting, presentation and competition.

Learning Materials and Innovation

​

           The teachers have a lot of motivating activities for the students because the teachers are encouraging the students to interact on the discussion of the teacher. The materials that were used by the teachers are suitable to their levels because, the medium of the instruction as well as the books or materials are in Bahasa Indonesia. I know that the students can really comprehend on what they are reading so; it was very evident that the students experiences good learning. The school is very much advance because the students are engaged on the audio-visual learning that targets two skills the auditory and visual learning of the students through having a projector in each of the classroom. Both the teachers and the students can access so they can present their report and lesson wherein everyone can listen especially in a wide audience. The students are also using smartphones in some of their activities so they easily catch up on the discussion.

Sources of Learning and Technology Used by the Teachers

​

            The teachers are very much flexible on the use of their materials, despite being provided with the modules, they still use the supplementary materials such as coming from other books and on the internet. They assess the materials and see which one can be suitable for the students especially that nowadays the students engage more on the digital world that’s why the teacher really employs the use of information from the internet.

​

            As what I have observed the teachers are very much motivated because they are using updated materials with regards to what the students really need and want. I think without the technology, there will be less chance of retention of learning to the students. With the paper and pen assessment as well as the black board type of discussion. A little of music and sounds stimulates students interest on the subject matter and it serves as a harmony that adds color to the students learning.

Authentic Assessment Used by the Teachers

​

            Well, I could say that the assessment used by the teachers are all authentic because they are targeting a specific competency in a particular subject, in my major field which is English it is taught for 3 hours per week. The teacher makes sure that the students can focus on the subject in both oral and written communication. Despite the language barrier that the students encounter, the teacher can still attend to give authentic assessment for the students learning. In the days that I was given time to observe I saw how the teachers equally divide the 3 hours for the students to get a lecture, have an activity and most importantly they can get high scores in their quizzes.

 

OTHER SCHOOL RELATED ACTIVITIES

            In my first week of teaching, I have handled Grade 12 students Beauty and Spa but I was not able to teach them because they were having stimulation activity in preparation for their upcoming national achievement test. The good thing about the Grade 12 preparation is there advancement in the use of technology in answering the test. The students operate an individual PC where they would just read the test items and then click the right letter of their choice and then submit their answers. I was so amazed for the very quick response of the students and through that, they were so comfortable in answering because they are inside the laboratory room and it is fully air-conditioned. The good ventilation of the classroom contributes on the focus of the students in answering their test. Stimulation also employs prepared for the students because they will be exposed to the same platform so they could avoid difficulties in answering.
